Dirty Snowballs

After enduring 27 Iowa winters, you'd think I would learn what happens when the temperatures dip below zero for several successive days. If you make the same mistake I did, one day you will be standing in your kitchen and go to let your dog back in. Suddenly, your dog will jump and skitter to the door because it looks and sounds like someone is throwing dirty snowballs at her through the open door. The snowballs land all over your car, the rugs and counter in the garage, and even miraculously stick to the peg board where you store your screwdrivers and extra pegs.

Then you will remember your mistake.  It is not dirty snowballs after all.

It is exploding soda cans.

Now my garage smells like Diet Coke and A&W Root Beer.

Not altogether unpleasant, come to think of it, but still.
