I enjoyed a day off work today and feel like it was a good balance between relaxing (sleeping in until 8), getting things done (cleaned out Ryan's closet, made meals, ran errands, wrote blog posts :) and having fun (stroller rides, playing with Ryan, reading books, visiting friends).
Since we were both home during banking hours, Adam and I decided to quick run into the bank to sign up for a savings account. U.S. Bank has a deal going on now that if you sign up for their S.T.A.R.T savings accounts, once you reach $1000 you get a $50 Visa card and if you keep your balance above $1000 for 12 months, you get another $50 gift card. Tell me if I'm wrong, but that's a 10% return in one year, which for anyone watching the stock market the last few days, is hard to come by. We happened to pick a day they were switching some computers around so it took longer than expected, but Ryan charmed the teller so much he ended up sitting on her lap, playing with her keyboard, and got his own little piggy bank to take home after multiple employees stopped by to say how cute he was. We're glad he is such a charmer out in public but it makes people wonder if he's ever NOT happy. Trust us, he has his moments.
Even thought it was windy this afternoon, I was determined to get outside. Nika had been bonzing for a walk all day (week?) so I took her and Ryan out for a stroll. Nika lasted about 15 minutes until the sun beating on her black fur turned her from tongue-wagging jumpy yelper to tongue-dragging lazy shade-seeker. I dropped her and her grocery bag of poop off at home (yes, I try to be a responsible dog walker), got a drink for Ryan and myself, then headed out again downtown to run some errands and visit the library.
We spent some time checking out the fun toys at the library: a big stuffed horse that sits on the floor with rope for a mane and a "follow the track" bead toy similar to The Original Rollercoaster by Anatex Ryan really loved this-he spun the beads around and started figuring out how to push them around the track. I'll have to keep my eye out for this type of toy on a garage sale.
Maybe it was the heat, the wind, or the fact that he'd only taken a 45 minute nap 4 hours ago, but the walk pretty much wore Buddy Boy out. Here's a before and after of the stroller ride, so you can draw your own conclusions.
